WHEC Reads!

WHEC Reads!WHEC has kicked off the 2021-2022 school year in a wonderful way.  Mrs. DeRenzo welcomed our community of readers back to WHEC with passion and determination.

She kicked off the year with a school-wide read-aloud, “Maybe.” This beautiful story helped our WHEC readers understand that anything is possible, and our dreams can be achieved with lots of hard work. What a great mantra! This positivity has filled classrooms with smiles, laughter, and hard work.

Our teachers have been dedicated to implementing a Balanced Literacy framework for reading and writing! This research-based approach to literacy provides our learners with opportunities to discuss the text and grow as readers and writers with deeper comprehension and connections to text and genres of reading and writing.

Our teachers’ literature-rich classroom environments and huge selection of diverse texts help our WHEC readers and writers develop independence.  We are certainly enjoying reading, discussing, and developing our love of literature in every WHEC classroom!
